Valerie Jarrett most recently was Senior Advisor to President Obama and Assistant to the President for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs for the entirety of his term. While at the White House, she worked on issues ranging from economic growth and opportunity to workplace policies for the empowerment of working families.
she was previously the CEO of The Habitat Company, a real estate development and management company in Chicago. She served as Chairman of the Chicago Transit Board, Commissioner of Planning and Development, and Deputy Chief of Staff and Deputy Corporation Counsel for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Valerie also practiced with private law firms for six years and served as the director of numerous corporate and not-for-profit boards including Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Stock Exchange, Chairman of the University of Chicago Medical Center Board of Trustees, and Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
Valerie sits on the boards of Lyft, Ariel Investments and is an advisor to The Obama Foundation.
She received her BA from Stanford University in 1978 and her JD from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981.
