Matthew Thornton III, is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Freight (May 2018). In this role, He is responsible for overseeing all operations for FedEx Freight, which offers extensive LTL coverage across North America.
Mr. Thornton was previously Senior Vice President, US Operations of FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation, since September 2006. Mr. Thornton joined FedEx Corporation in November 1978 and has held various management positions of increasing responsibility with the company, including Senior Vice President - Air, Ground & Freight Services from July 2004 to September 2006 and Vice President - Regional Operations (Central Region) from April 1998 to July 2004.
Mr. Thornton is an independent director of the Sherwin Williams Company. he also serves on the Board of Directors of Safe Kids Worldwide and is a member of The Executive Leadership Council (ELC).
Mr. Thornton holds a Bachelor's Degree in General Business Administration and Management (1980), from the University of Memphis and an M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2001).
