Previously, he served as the CEO of J. C. Penney, a position he held since August 2015, and assumed the role of Chairman effective August 1, 2016. His tenure as the company's president began in 2014, contributing to nearly three decades of experience in the retail sector.

Before his time at J. C. Penney, Mr. Ellison spent 12 years at Home Depot. As the executive vice president of U.S. stores from August 2008, he held the senior-most operations leadership role for Home Depot's extensive network of approximately 2,000 stores. Earlier, he served as president of the Northern Division, overseeing the sales and operations of more than 700 stores in 21 states and leading a team of over 150,000 associates. His responsibilities also included a role as senior vice president of global logistics, managing domestic distribution, transportation, store and appliance delivery, import distribution, and international logistics across the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, and more than 35 other countries.

Before joining Home Depot, Mr. Ellison spent 15 years at Target in various operational roles, including Corporate Director of Asset Protection.
