Derek E. N. Saleeby

Derek Saleeby is the Executive Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer for RLJ Select Investments, a hedge fund of funds formed in joint venture with Deutsche Asset Management (DeAM).

Mr. Saleeby has extensive experience in the hedge fund industry both as a portfolio manager and as a fund advisor structuring private and public equity and debt investments.  He also has experience as a senior professional in investment banking and capital markets. His background includes experience with mergers and acquisitions, LBOs, debt and equity origination for U.S. and foreign issuers, and mezzanine finance. Most recently he served as a principal with RAM Capital Resources, LLC, a hedge fund manager and fund advisor in New York City.  

Prior to RAM, Mr. Saleeby co-founded African Private Equity Partners, LLC, a merchant banking practice which provided investment banking advisory and private equity services to international and African issuers and institutional investors. He was responsible for investment banking transactional work such as origination, quantitative analysis, structuring, packaging and placement.  Mr. Saleeby was also a senior banker with Dabney Flanigan, an investment banking boutique in New York, where he focused on fixed income and restructuring related advisory services.

As a senior professional with Spain’s Banco Bilbao Vizcaya, Mr. Saleeby focused on identifying, analyzing, structuring and placing, Spanish, Latin American and Caribbean investment opportunities.

Previously, at Smith Barney, Mr. Saleeby structured and raised private and public equity and debt financing for early-stage telecommunications companies and retail, media, defense, and consumer goods companies. In addition, he was a founding member of both Smith Barney’s media and telecommunications banking group and the emerging markets debt capital markets group. His responsibilities also included analyzing and placing South African, Middle Eastern, and Latin American offerings.

Prior to Smith Barney, Mr. Saleeby was a banker in Citibank’s Global Corporate Finance Group where he specialized in global mergers and acquisitions, and structured financing for financial institutions.
