Chris Womack currently serves as the President and CEO of Southern Company, a leading national energy provider serving 9 million customers.
Prior to his current role, starting in 2021, he held the positions of Chairman, President, and CEO of Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company. Before that, he served as Executive Vice President and President of External Affairs for Southern Company. In this role, he oversaw external positioning, branding, public policy strategies, and governmental affairs.
Womack joined Southern Company in 1988 and has held various leadership roles within the company and its subsidiaries, including Executive Vice President of External Affairs at Georgia Power and Senior Vice President and Senior Production Officer of Southern Company Generation. He also served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Public Relations at Alabama Power.
Before joining Southern Company, Womack worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., serving as a legislative aide for former Congressman Leon E. Panetta and as Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Personnel and Police for the Committee on House Administration.
In addition to his role at Southern Company, Chris Womack is involved in various industry and community leadership positions. He currently co-chairs the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Customer Solutions Policy Committee and sits on the boards of Invesco Ltd. and the Georgia Ports Authority. He has also chaired organizations like the East Lake Foundation and the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Chris Womack holds a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, a master's degree from The American University, and completed the Stanford Executive Program in 2001, enhancing his leadership skills and industry knowledge. He is presently pursuing a doctoral degree in political science at Clark Atlanta University.
