Ms. Jones was president of Caroline Jones, Inc., which she founded and ran from 1986 until her death in June 2001. She is one of the most successful women in advertising and the first black female executive at a major advertising agency.

Her clients included McDonald's, American Express, Anheuser-Busch, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Prudential, Toys ''R'' Us and the Postal Service. 

 A former Advertising Woman of the Year, she produced some of the most unforgettable campaigns in advertising history. Ms. Jones created the Kentucky Fried Chicken slogan, "We Do Chicken Right."

Prior to starting Caroline Jones Incorporated, she was a founder, Executive Vice President and Creative Director of Mingo-Jones Advertising, 1977-87; 

Ms. Jones is credited as being the first black female Vice President at BBDO, a major advertising agency where she worked from 1975-77. 

Prior to BBDO, she worked for Black Creative Group, as creative director, 1972-75 and Kenyon and Eckhardt Advertising, as a senior copywriter, 1970-72. 

She was a co-founder, vice president and co-creative director, 1968-70, of Zebra Associates, a black owned full-service agency. 

She was the first black female creative director at J. Walter Thompson, where she began her career, working her way up from secretary to senior copywriter, 1963-68.

She was born Caroline Robinson, in Benton Harbor, Mich., the third of 10 children and the eldest daughter.

Ms. Jones’ associations included the Committee of 200, International Women's Forum, Advertising Woman of New York and the Boards of the New York City Partnership, Eureka Communities, The Advertising Council and the VCU Ad Center, Richmond, VA. She had also been a member of the New York State Banking Board and the advisory committee of the Women's Bank of New York. For many years, she was a moderator and host of radio and television programs under the titles ''Focus on the Black Woman'' and ''In the Black: Keys to Success.''

Ms. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English and Science from the University of Michigan in 1963.

Caroline Robinson Jones died of cancer in New York at age 59 in July 2001.
