Russell Simmons Gets $2.5 Million Donation for Arts Center

Created by BlackEntrepreneurProfiles.com

Russell Simmons' Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation will receive a $2.5 million donation from NY real estate tycoon Ron Hershco for a neighborhood arts center.

"We intend for it to be an active and lively hub for neighborhood youth to come and learn about art," Ellen Haddigan, president of Rush's board told the New York Post.

The 10,000-square-foot space, which will be located at 2590 Atlantic Ave. in East New York, will feature a gallery, studios for artists/teachers, and classrooms.

The gift will also allow Rush to expand beyond its 900-square-foot Chelsea gallery and the 1,000-square-foot Corridor Gallery in Clinton Hill.

The Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation promotes arts education for disadvantaged urban youth, and support for emerging artists of color.
