Oprah Winfrey Only Black Person on 400 Richest Americans List
Oprah Winfrey, age 58, is once again America's only black billionaire and the only black person on the Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans. Ms. Winfrey's net worth of $2.7 billion, makes her the 151st richest American. The majority of her net worth stems from 25 years of her profitable daytime TV show, plus earnings from her Harpo production company, which has a hand in the Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray and Dr. Oz shows. Forbes magazine figures Winfrey was the highest earning celebrity this past year, pulling in an estimated $165 million in the year through May 2012. Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) looks to be turning the corner. Despite low ratings early on, a deal with Comcast means OWN can now be seen in 83 million homes. To combat weak ratings, Ms. Winfrey added the CEO and Chief Creative Officer position in addition to her previous role as Chairman in July 2011.
