MV Transportation, Inc. Nominated for Transportation Leadership Award

Created by BlackEntrepreneurProfiles.com

MV Transportation, Inc., the largest provider of specialized transportation for the elderly and disabled in the United States, has been nominated for a 2006 Central Florida Regional Transportation Leadership Award.

Presented each year by the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX), Metro Orlando Economic Commission, METROPLAN Orlando and the Orlando Business Journal, the Regional Leadership Awards honor outstanding achievements and recognizes significant contributions made by Central Florida businesses and individuals who provide transportation benefits to employees or residents. Award categories are designed to recognize excellence in performance, leadership, innovation and teamwork.

For the outstanding public-private partnership it shares with LYNX, MV was nominated for the Excellence Award for Partnership and the Private Sector Teamwork Award.

The company has managed and operated the ACCESS LYNX paratransit program since 2002, and on October 1, renewed its contract for five years.

Since the beginning of their partnership, MV has worked alongside LYNX and expended much of its own resources to help protect the transit agency from potentially detrimental legislation, preserve its financial stability and increase on-time performance from 67% to 94%.

"We are extremely excited to be recognized for our contributions we make each day in Central Florida," said Jon Monson, MV's Chief Executive Officer. "Our partnership with LYNX is truly one we value and attempt to model our other operations after. We certainly enjoy the camaraderie we share with LYNX's CEO Linda Watson and her staff."

Besides the LYNX contract, MV operates four other Central Florida divisions in Lake County, Alachua County, Winter Springs and at the Orlando International Airport. MV also operates contracts in Jacksonville and Palm Beach.

Also nominated for an RTL Award is MV Director of Government Relations and General Manager Edward Griffin. Griffin is nominated for consistently demonstrating effective management of limited transportation resources by ensuring that the needs of eligible passengers were met, while being an effective steward taxpayers' money in ensuring resources were spent on those truly eligible for the services.

Griffin is a former Commissioner for Florida's Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged and has more than 17 years of transportation experience in Florida.
