Condoleezza Rice most powerful woman in the world
Condoleezza Rice, the first African-American woman to become the U.S. secretary of state, tops the second annual “Forbes Magazine: 100 Most Powerful Women†for the second time. Rice, 50, is the most powerful woman in the world because she advises the leader of the world's largest superpower and has an unparalleled level of trust with and access to the president. Rice has also server under two other U.S. presidents, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. In her role as secretary of state she has visited 31 countries and logged in over 119,000 miles.
The only other black in the top 10 is billionaire Oprah Winfrey, whose “The Oprah Winfrey Showâ€, is aired in 112 countries, including the United States. Winfrey is also a vocal advocate for the education and well-being of women and children around the world, giving to those in need via Oprah's Angel Network and her personal charity, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation is #10.
Wangari Maathai, 65, the first woman from Africa to received the Nobel Peace Prize, for starting her Green Belt Movement to reforest Africa, a movement that sprouted from her work on the National Council of Kenya, where she had worked on an effort that not only planted trees but sought to improve the quality of life for women and families and conserve the environment is #68 on the list.
Luisa Diogo, 47, who was appointed prime minister of Mozambique in 1994, is #96.
