Byron Allen's Allen Media Group (AMG) filed a $100 million fraud lawsuit against McDonald’s, accusing the fast food giant of reneging on a promise to increase advertising spending with Black-owned media outlets from 2 to 5 percent by the end of 2024. The lawsuit claimed McDonald's made this pledge to avoid racial discrimination allegations amid the Black Lives Matter movement. However, a Los Angeles judge dismissed the suit, stating that McDonald’s still has time to fulfill its commitment. The judge emphasized that the lawsuit was premature as the deadline had not passed. McDonald’s labeled the lawsuit as frivolous and part of a smear campaign by Allen. The court ruled in favor of McDonald’s under California's anti-SLAPP law, safeguarding free speech rights. Another lawsuit by AMG, alleging racial stereotyping through advertising practices, is ongoing in federal court.
